About the Test

This test uses qPCR to measure H. pylori and antibiotic resistance genes. The addition of virulence factor testing helps determine the potential of H. pylori to cause disease.

Ordering the H. pylori Profile From Diagnostics Solutions

The H. pylori Profile from Diagnostic Solutions Laboratory uses quantitative PCR (qPCR) technology to identify H. pylori infections. Additionally, the H. pylori Profile is a valuable tool when monitoring H. pylori levels after treatment.

Recent studies have shown that nearly 50% of the world's population may harbor H. pylori. And although many carriers are asymptomatic, H. pylori is known to have a causative role in ulcers, chronic gastritis, and stomach cancer.

The H. pylori Profile also includes antibiotic-resistance genes for Amoxicillin, Clarithromycin, Fluoroquinolones, and Tetracycline. The antibiotic resistance genes offer key insight practitioners can use to guide treatment protocols.

Further, the H. pylori Profile evaluates virulence factor genes – the presence of which may predispose patients to more severe H. pylori infections.

The H. pylori Profile evaluates the following virulence factors:

  • Virulence Factor, babA
  • Virulence Factor, cagA
  • Virulence Factor, dupA
  • Virulence Factor, iceA
  • Virulence Factor, oipA
  • Virulence Factor, vacA
  • Virulence Factor, virB
  • Virulence Factor, virD

What Patients Can Benefit from the H. pylori Profile?

The H. pylori Profile can benefit patients who are experiencing the following symptoms:

  • Gastrointestinal discomfort (pain and bloating)
  • Gastric reflux
  • Nausea
  • Bloating
  • Loss of appetite
  • Unintentional weight loss
