The 184 IgG Food Sensitivity Panel measures IgG response to 184 commonly consumed foods, and the 25 Basic IgE Combo Panel test the allergic immune response (IgE) to 25 of the most commonly allergenic foods. A sensitivity (IgG), or delayed reaction, occurs days after the exposure. Alternatively, allergic (IgE), or immediate reaction, occurs within minutes to hours after the exposure.
Delayed immune reactions are more common than allergic reactions. Food sensitivities are not, for the most part, life-threatening, however, the antibodies produced due to food sensitivities and the general systemic inflammation they cause, contribute to chronic disorders. Food sensitivities have been linked to arthritis, thyroid disorders, autism spectrum disorders, type 2 diabetes, Alzheimer’s disease and many more. These chronic disorders reduce one’s quality of life.
Food allergies affect about 4% of the adult population and about 5% of children. Children may outgrow some of their food allergies before they reach adulthood. Allergic reactions may be mild, such as a runny nose, to life-threatening anaphylaxis.
The root cause of a variety of health problems often stems from the foods we are consuming every day. These can also include foods that are considered healthy. Identifying these foods is a key step to symptom improvement.
Order IgE in cases of immediate immune reactions.
Food Sensitivity Panel should be considered when patients present the following symptoms or conditions:
No fasting or need to come off most medications or supplements.
The accuracy and precision of laboratory results depends on the quality of the specimen received at the laboratory. Observation of any of the conditions below, upon receipt of the specimen will result in the rejection of the specimen and the submitting entity will be informed:
This combination panel measures IgG response to 184 foods and IgE response to 25 foods to determine food sensitivities and allergies.
