We have a new blog series that features each of our lab partners so that you can get to know them better! Next up is Cyrex Laboratories. We had a great conversation with Michelle Clark, Director of Sales, to learn more about Cyrex, how they got started, and the technology behind their tests.
Introducing Cyrex Laboratories!
Hi Michelle! I am excited to chat with you and learn more about Cyrex. When was the lab founded and how?
We were founded 9 years ago, 2011.
How did the company get started?
Our scientific team is comprised of experts from a variety of medical and research disciplines, which bring together the latest findings from medical research and the assessment needs of today’s healthcare professionals. Out of this collaboration, the company formed and we developed the next generation of clinical lab testing that is required to care for present-day complex maladies.
What is the main focus at Cyrex?
We specialize in a functional approach to assess environmentally-induced autoimmunity. Environmental trigger (foods, chemicals and pathogens) barrier permeability (intestinal and blood-brain) and multiple organ self-tissue antibody testing. These key assessments for a variety of antigens, can be used for the early detection and monitoring of today’s complex autoimmune conditions.
Wow, that is cool. What technology do you use at your lab to do this?
ELISA technology developed with Antigen PurificationTM, Optimized Antigen ConcentrationTM, Antigen-Specific ValidationTM and Parallel Testing TechnologyTM.
Sounds technical! What are the main conditions practitioners are using your labs to diagnose and treat?
Leaky Gut or gut dysbiosis, Food sensitivity or gluten reactivity, Chemical sensitivity, Pathogen reactivity, Family history of autoimmunity, Neuro autoimmune disorders
What is your favorite part about being in this industry?
To work with leading clinical laboratory researchers like Dr. Aristo Vojdani, and the innovative functional medicine practitioners and their organizations. Dr. Vojdani’s extraordinary knowledge, expertise in immunology and the development of cutting edge test arrays separates us apart from other laboratories industry wide. Dr. Vojdani has been recognized as the “Father of Functional Immunology” by industry leaders. It doesn’t get better than that!
What is your future vision for functional medicine lab work?
To continue to provide new and innovative tests which are accurate, reproducible and help our personalized medicine practitioners diagnose and treat environmentally induced autoimmunity.
What are you working on right now as a lab? What do practitioners have to look forward to?
Several key markers of immune system resilience. Key markers focus on mucosal, cellular, and humoral immunology associated with autoimmunities and related neurodysregulation.
Anything else interesting, funny, or noteworthy you’d like practitioners to know about your lab?
The Cyrex Education Library is an extensive online resource available exclusively to our customers. Plus, everyone should have a copy of Dr. Aristo Vojdani’s and Dr. Elroy Vojdani’s landmark book “Food-Associated Autoimmunities (First Edition 2109). In the books, Dr. Vojdani describes how environmental factors are direct triggers of autoimmune diseases. Physicians, healthcare professionals, nutritionists and even patients with autoimmunity can benefit from this extraordinary wealth of information. I personally found the books super intersting!
Thanks Michelle! Great chatting :)
Here are the most popular tests from Cyrex:
1. Essential Barriers (Serum Test)
Intestinal Antigenic Permeability Screen: Measures intestinal permeability to large molecules, which inflame the immune system.
Blood Brain Barrier Permeability: Assists in the assessment of increased risk of neurodegenerative disorders. Helps in the early investigation of contact sports-related Traumatic Brain Injury, and evaluates the breach of Blood-Brain Barrier.
Irritable Bowel/SIBO Screen: Identifies the release of bacterial cytotoxins that cause irritable bowels and/or SIBO and evaluates the breakdown of the intestinal barrier.
2. Environmental Triggers (Serum Test)
Wheat/Gluten Proteome Reactivity: A comprehensive Wheat/Gluten reactivity test, which assists in the identification of wheat reactivity, non-celiac gluten sensitivity, Celiac disease, food opioid reactivity, intestinal barrier damage and wheat-related autoimmunity.
Gluten Associated Cross Reactive Foods: Identifies reactivity to foods known to cross-react to gliadin and reactivity to newly introduced foods on a gluten-free diet.
Multiple Food Immune Reactivity Screen: This unique, revolutionary panel measures reactivity to 180 food antigens in the cooked, raw, modified or processed form on the same panel. Assists in early detection of dietary-related triggers of autoimmune reactivity and monitors the effectiveness of customized dietary protocols.
Chemical Immune Reactivity Screen: Identifies body burden of chemicals bound to human tissues, which may lead to autoimmune reactivity.
Pathogen-Associated Immune Reactivity Screen: Detect immune reaction to key pathogens that may lead to multiple autoimmune reactivitiesPredictive Antibodies of Immune Reactivity (Serum Test)
Measures predictive autoantibodies, some of which can appear up to 10 years before clinical symptoms. Efficiently and economically assesses possible tissue damage to multiple organs of the body.
3. LINX Ahlzeimer’s (Serum Test)
Identifies route of pathogenesis leading to cognitive decline, addresses Blood-Brain Barrier (BBB) breakdown, allowing for identification and removal of triggers.Mucosal Immune Response Testing (Saliva Test)
Mucosal Immune Reactivity Screen: Identifies biomarkers of Total Secretory IgA, immune tolerance, intestinal barrier dysfunction, food, chemical and pathogen reactivity and blood brain barrier integrity.
