We have a new blog series that features each of our lab partners so that you can get to know them better! Next up is AYUMETRIX. We had a great conversation with Dr. Sanjay Kapur, Founder, President & CEO to learn more about AYUMETRIX, how they started it, and the technology behind their tests.
Introducing AYUMETRIX!
Hello Dr. Kapur! Great to chat with you! Where are you located? How long has AYUMETRIX been in business?
AYUMETRIX has been around since 2015, but I have been in the industry for over 20 years. Our lab is in Lake Oswego, Oregon.
That's a long time! Why did you start AYUMETRIX?
AYUMETRIX is a “smart lab of the future.” I founded it to empower individuals to take charge of their health and wellness using innovative sample collection and laboratory testing technologies of the future. I am a Biochemist. My vision is to see a paradigm shift in the way we practice medicine and approach healthcare. It is time to be smart and establish a true collaboration between healthcare communities and individuals to bring a positive change in our healthcare practices.
I love your greater vision, thanks for sharing! What is the main focus at the lab?
Global hormone and wellness testing. We partner with clinicians all around the world and offer a practice building package that is inclusive of integrative and functional laboratory testing services, personal health data acquisition/ analysis-all under the guidance from industry experts.
I like that you focus globally, rather than just domestically. What is the technology behind your testing and diagnostics?
We utilize the most advanced state of the art equipment and technologies, including immunoassays, mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS, GCMS, ICP-MS)
What are the main conditions practitioners are using your labs to diagnose and treat?
Hormone Imbalance, adrenal stress, metal toxicity, food allergies, fertility issues, weight management, skin problems, genetic disorders and overall wellness.
What is your favorite part about being in this industry?
To be able to help individuals to take charge of their health and wellness. We are able to help clinicians and their patients practice true healthcare and not sick care anymore.
It is nice to hear about all the support you offer for providers! What is your future vision for functional medicine lab work?
Functional medicine lab work needs to be free from business and financial gains. Since physicians rely on a laboratory's scientific expertise and base their treatment plans on that trust, the laboratories should focus on practicing ethical science without confusing the practitioners. The science and clinical information being shared with healthcare practitioners should be unbiased. For example, with respect to hormone testing I get this question from many healthcare practitioners on why some labs project urine to be the best and some others say saliva or blood is the best way for testing. I invite and request all the testing laboratories to come together especially with respect to explaining the use of different body fluids for testing. Let us not confuse the clinicians and their patients. All testing methods using different body fluids have their own benefits and drawbacks. There is not one single testing method that we can say is the best and all the rest is useless.
That makes sense and I personally agree. What are you working on right now as a lab? What do practitioners have to look forward to?
Our research team is working on several new test panels and innovative technologies, especially with respect to the future needs of functional medicine and new ways of living our lives. Something to look for in the immediate future is our Omega 3 Index panel using finger stick blood collection. This will be available starting next week.
Anything else interesting or noteworthy you’d like practitioners to know about your lab?
We have received a lot of attention for being the most innovative laboratory under the guidance of the best Laboratory Director we have- Dr. Sonia Kapur. She is a perfectionist when it is about reporting accurate test results.
AYUMETRIX made it to 100 Best Companies to work for in Oregon 2020 and guess what we were placed at 13th position in the list. We are so proud of our team who works very hard to make sure customers are happy and completely satisfied. We take pride in exceptional customer service and strong science. AYUMETRIX offers flexible options to functional medicine healthcare practitioners at the most competitive pricing without compromising on science and high accuracy standards.
That is great! Two themes I keep hearing from you are around support for practitioners and providers, and price transparency and fairness. I think these are so important in this industry right now!
