About the Test

The folate test measures the amount of folate in your blood. Folate is a B vitamin found naturally in certain foods. Folate helps your body make red blood cells, which carry oxygen throughout your body. Low levels of folate can lead to anemia and other health problems. The test is used to diagnose and monitor folate deficiencies, as well as to monitor people taking folate supplements.
