What's
Prediabetes Assessment
?
A Prediabetes Assessment is an essential check-up that helps determine if your body is having trouble maintaining healthy blood sugar levels. This evaluation usually involves measuring your blood glucose and HbA1c levels. Blood glucose is the main type of sugar in your blood, coming from the food you eat, and it's your body's primary source of energy. HbA1c is a type of hemoglobin that connects to glucose. It gives an overview of your average blood glucose levels over the past three months. These measurements together provide valuable information about how well your body handles sugar, which is crucial for producing energy and maintaining overall health.
If Your Levels Are High
A high Prediabetes Assessment score might mean that your body is struggling to process sugar properly. This could be due to various reasons, such as eating too many processed foods and sweets, not getting enough exercise, or having a genetic tendency. External factors like certain medications (like steroids or some blood pressure drugs) or high stress levels can also affect how well your body uses insulin. Possible underlying issues could be metabolic syndrome or insulin resistance, both of which can make it harder for your body to manage blood sugar levels.
Symptoms of High Levels
Symptoms of a high Prediabetes Assessment score may include increased thirst, frequent urination, fatigue, blurred vision, and unexplained weight loss.
If Your Levels are Low
A low Prediabetes Assessment score might mean that your body is doing a good job at using the glucose from the food you eat, keeping your blood sugar levels in check. This can be a result of eating a balanced diet, exercising regularly, or having a healthy metabolism. However, certain factors like specific medications or a high-fiber diet could also lead to lower blood glucose levels. Some possible underlying conditions that could cause these results include an overactive thyroid, problems with the adrenal or pituitary glands, the liver not producing enough glucose, or the stomach taking longer to empty, which can affect how your body absorbs and uses glucose.
Symptoms of Low Levels
Symptoms of a low Prediabetes Assessment score may not be immediately noticeable. However, some individuals might experience fatigue, dizziness, or excessive hunger. In more severe cases, symptoms could include confusion, heart palpitations, or even fainting.
