What's
Lymphocytes (%)
?
Lymphocytes are a type of white blood cell that play a crucial role in your immune system. They are your body's main defense against harmful invaders like bacteria, viruses, and other harmful substances. These tiny fighters are made in different parts of your body, such as the bone marrow, spleen, and lymph nodes. They travel through your bloodstream and lymphatic system, always on the lookout for threats. The percentage of lymphocytes in your blood provides a glimpse of your immune system's ability to fight off infections and diseases. It's like a snapshot of your body's internal security team, showing how well-prepared you are to defend yourself from health risks.
If Your Levels Are High
A high lymphocyte percentage means that your body's immune system is working extra hard to protect you from harmful invaders, like bacteria or viruses. This could be because you're dealing with a recent or ongoing infection, or it might be due to certain medications, like corticosteroids, that can boost your lymphocyte count. Sometimes, conditions that affect your immune system, such as autoimmune disorders or chronic inflammatory diseases, can also cause higher lymphocyte levels. Keep in mind that while a high lymphocyte percentage shows your immune system is active, it doesn't tell us the exact cause or location of the problem.
Symptoms of High Levels
Symptoms of high levels of Lymphocytes (%) may not always be apparent, as they often mirror general signs of illness. These could include fatigue, fever, swollen lymph nodes, and unexplained weight loss.
If Your Levels are Low
Low lymphocyte levels might mean that your immune system isn't working at its best right now. This could be because of various reasons like having been sick recently, feeling stressed, or not getting enough nutrients. Some medications, such as corticosteroids, can also cause a drop in lymphocyte levels. Additionally, certain health conditions like autoimmune disorders, where your immune system accidentally attacks healthy cells, or chronic illnesses like kidney disease, could be contributing factors. Keep in mind that this is just a snapshot of your immune system at a specific time, and these levels can change due to different factors.
Symptoms of Low Levels
Symptoms of low levels of Lymphocytes (%) may not be immediately noticeable, as they often mirror general signs of illness. These could include frequent infections, prolonged recovery from illnesses, fatigue, and unexplained weight loss.
