What's
Lyme IgG Band 93
?
Lyme IgG Band 93 is a special marker used to test for Lyme disease, an illness spread through the bite of infected black-legged ticks. This marker represents a specific protein found on the Borrelia burgdorferi bacteria, which causes Lyme disease. When your body comes into contact with this bacteria, it creates antibodies, like IgG, to help fight off the infection. The presence of Lyme IgG Band 93 shows that your body has been reacting to this particular protein, which suggests you've been exposed to the bacteria. It's like a unique fingerprint your body leaves behind after fighting the Lyme disease bacteria.
If Your Levels Are High
Elevated levels of Lyme IgG Band 93 might mean that your body has come into contact with the bacteria that causes Lyme disease, called Borrelia burgdorferi. When your immune system fights this bacteria, it creates specific antibodies, like IgG, to help protect you. The presence of Lyme IgG Band 93 shows that your body has been responding to a particular protein on the bacteria. High levels could be influenced by factors such as a recent tick bite or certain medications, like antibiotics or immunosuppressants. It's also possible that other health conditions affecting your immune system could be involved.
Symptoms of High Levels
Symptoms of high levels of Lyme IgG Band 93 may not be distinct, as this marker is more about exposure to the bacteria rather than the severity of the disease. However, general symptoms associated with Lyme disease could include fatigue, fever, headache, muscle and joint aches, and swollen lymph nodes.
If Your Levels are Low
A low level of Lyme IgG Band 93 might mean that your body hasn't encountered or reacted to the Borrelia burgdorferi bacteria, which is usually linked to Lyme disease. This could be because your immune system is strong and has managed to get rid of the bacteria without making a lot of these specific antibodies, or maybe you just haven't come into contact with the bacteria. Some medications, especially those that weaken the immune system, could also impact the production of these antibodies. Another possibility is that the infection is still very new, and your body hasn't had time to create enough of these antibodies to be detected.
Symptoms of Low Levels
Symptoms of low levels of Lyme IgG Band 93 are typically non-existent, as this test is more about exposure to the bacteria rather than symptom manifestation.
