What's
Lyme IgG Band 30
?
Lyme IgG Band 30 is a specific marker used in testing for Lyme disease, an infection spread through the bite of infected black-legged ticks. This marker is part of the Western Blot test, a more detailed and accurate method used to detect antibodies against the bacteria causing Lyme disease, called Borrelia burgdorferi. Band 30 specifically identifies the presence of an antibody that reacts to a particular protein of the Borrelia burgdorferi bacteria. This protein is often called OspA and is one of the outer surface proteins of the bacteria. Detecting this band can provide important information in diagnosing Lyme disease.
If Your Levels Are High
Elevated levels of Lyme IgG Band 30 might mean that your body is creating more antibodies due to possible exposure to the bacteria that causes Lyme disease, called Borrelia burgdorferi. This increased immune response could be a result of a recent or past infection. Some medications, like steroids or immunosuppressants, could also affect your immune system and contribute to higher levels. It's important to note that sometimes, your immune system might confuse other bacteria for Borrelia burgdorferi and produce antibodies, leading to higher levels of Lyme IgG Band 30.
Symptoms of High Levels
Symptoms of high levels of Lyme IgG Band 30 could include fatigue, joint or muscle pain, cognitive difficulties, or other signs typically associated with Lyme disease. However, it's important to note that these symptoms can be quite varied and some individuals may not experience any noticeable symptoms at all.
If Your Levels are Low
A low level of Lyme IgG Band 30 might mean that your body hasn't produced a strong immune response to the bacteria usually linked to Lyme disease, called Borrelia burgdorferi. This could be because the test was done too early, as it can take some time for your body to make enough antibodies to be detected. It's also possible that you haven't been exposed to the bacteria. Certain medications, like those that suppress the immune system, could affect the levels of these antibodies as well. Keep in mind that this is just one marker and doesn't give a full picture of your health.
Symptoms of Low Levels
Symptoms of low levels of Lyme IgG Band 30 are typically non-existent, as this marker is more about exposure to the bacteria rather than symptom manifestation.
